i was thinking of calling this guy up for the last 10 games and postseason, is there any way i can send him back to AAA before the world rolls (other than the DL thing) and not risk a demotion penalty?

Unless he's part of your World Series roster, you should be able to demote him when your post-season ends with no penalty.

If you make it to the WS and he's on your roster, everything freezes after the WS concludes.

There isn't a demotion penalty if he is demoted before spring training next year.
