. . getting this at 5:00:

BTW, I gave him a thumbs up after he made a great play, he gave me a big smile - I really think he'll be playing for us next year.

And THIS at 5:01. . .

Coach, to be quite honest, there is just no way I see myself at Florida Gulf Coast next season. Although I'm not saying no, I'm just saying it's very unlikely.

maybe he was just flirting with your assistant??????

Same old story. It's the scholarship message that matters, that's it.

The scholarship message reflects where you stand at the end of a cycle.

I would take it to mean one of two things --

You've done enough to crack through the "you're a backup option for me" facade but not quite enough yet to sway him on the scholarship. If he's been turning down home visits from you to this point, odds are he'll probably accept one the next cycle. I've always taken the 5 p.m. you received in the same light that I've interpreted the transition in comments my assistant makes about the other coaches in the audience at games he evaluates -- it's a sign you're getting close to swaying the kid, you just need to drop a little more attention on him.

OR, you're not the only one after the kid and when the combined actions you took that cycle were weighed vs. what other recruiters did, it generated the scholarship message you received.
