Idea for Player Management Topic

Ok, this may have been discussed before and I apologize if it has.  But watching college basketball this year it reminded me of something I crave for the HD game.

The ability to more significantly decide how a player plays.

This may be impractical and I am not sure how it would work but I wish there was a way to create players with unique nitch abilities.  For example.

Wouldn't it be nice to turn a PG with 85 BH and P into a distributer.  A La Kendal Marshall from UNC or any other Pass First players.  As is you have to increase distribution to a point that these types of players in the SIM become liabilities.

Or wouldn't it be nice to set a player off the bench with a shoot first priority in the offense, ie, a distributive property that could supercede starters so as to get the fresh guy more touches.

I know the point of the SIM isn't to mirror the real world exactly, but at the least it would be nice to allow a player a few more options on how to impact a game.  I really want to be able to develop a team and or use a player with ratings inclined to suggest he is a pass first distributer, but as is, this is futile unless they can score at will also.

Thoughts?

You can accomplish both items you suggested merely by applying your idea to your player distro.

You can make a PG a pass-first player by giving him a 0 distro..  You can make a bench player be a first priority in the offense by making sure that his distro # supercedes that of all of the starters or other players on the court..  So for example, if your distros are as follows PG = 0, SG = 5, SF =10 PF = 10 and C = 5.  Your PG will be a pass first player and still may take a shot or two..  Now for your player off of the bench to be the first priority: Lets say he is the SG.  Make his distro 25 or higher for him to be the # 1 option since the rest of the players distro on the court will equal 25.  This way if his distro is 25, he will take half as many shots as the rest of the players on the court.

if your distro is set at 0 the engine will determine when you shoot, and your 3 pt settings will be ignored. If you want a low shot attempt distro guard, set him at 1.

Actually, the engine will only determine shot attempts if everyone is set to "0."  In my experience, the guys who are set to "0" will only shoot on put-backs or breakaways.  I generally set my poorest shooters to "1" though -- I want to at least give them a chance at glory.

I'm a little confused by your post, deacon.  It's very easy to make a guard a pass-first, shoot-rarely type of guy.  It's all the in the distro.  Bringing a scorer off the bench is slightly more complicated, but coach_ms laid out a nice plan.  The thing you want to be careful of is to put too much distro on one back-up player when the rest his teammates on the court have very little.  In coach_ms's plan, the SG will take half the shots when he's the only back-up player on the court.  But let's say the other back-ups are in with the SG and have distros of 2, 1, 1 and 1.  Now the SG has 25 of 30 available distro and he'll be taking 5/6th of the shots.  When one player's gunning like that their effectiveness tends to go way down.

So you do need to do a little experimentation to find a nice ratio for your scorer -- but I haven't seen any negative effect in FG% when one player has half the distro.

my understanding of the distrobution must be wrong, which is great to learn because i have had decent success for many season not understanding it fully then.

i thought distrobution number was a usage %, it if a pg is set to 10 out of a 100 it means he possess' the ball 10% of the time.  Obviously this increases based on who else is on the court and what their distrobution is.

but based on y'all's input it seems you are saying distrobution only determines who takes a shot.  if that is the case then that would also suggest my center could randomly bring the ball up the court everytime?

That's not how distribution works.

I'm not sure anyone knows exactly what distro is, but I think it's something more along the lines of plays that are run through that person.

PGs still handle the ball with a 0 distro.  For example, I had a guy last season who was consistently at 2-6 distro, and he led the country with 8+ assists per game.  It's actually fairly easy to have a distributor.

wow, I am a moron, glad i had a wrong view of distro all these seasons, i wonder what my teams could have done had those worthless offensive options not chucked up shots...thanks for the input everyone...

and keep in mind it is a proportion, not a literal percentage

if you gave every player on your team a distro of 1 or 5 or 10 it would mean EXACTLY the same thing

once you give people different distros, the effect is applied - as I understand it - by looking at the distros of the players on the floor at a given moment....so

lets say you start with 5 players with distros of 11-11-15-8-8 (from 1 spot to 5 spot)

those ratios will govern distribution UNTIL there is a sub. Lets say the first two guys out change the distro to 11-5-5-8-8

those distros of 5 not only determine the distro of those players but they are part of the denominator, so the guy who is still in there with 11will get a BIGGER share of distro after the subs happen - it will move from 11 out of 53 to 11 out of 37....

I'm not absolutely sure what distro controls, but I think what ike said is consistent with what most folks think - proportion of plays run through or for a person - for sure not the time the ball is in his hands and rather clearly not the % of shots.......but heck if I really know

makes more sense now mamxet, just assumed distro was usage or shots
