I s'pose someone may have a story that tops this, but it's pretty wild, to me.
True, this is in an Exhibition League (so I can't paste it in, WIS-style) and in 1999, A.J. Burnett had given up a few more than his share of walks, while being stingy on the hits, but this is ridiculous.
In real life, the guy pitched 42 innings in 7 games, which means he should have been fine for his first 100 pitches or so, in my book. I don't know that Vince Lombardi was right when he said, "Fatigue makes cowards of us all." I don't think so, in A.J's case. He just kept on till he couldn't make one more pitch.
A.J's outcome: 4.1 IP, 24 hits, 28 runs, 25 earned runs in 170 pitches until they had to carry him off the field, after he collapsed.
