I've been wondering recently, what exactly does fatigue effect?

It seems obvious for all players that when playing with a reduced fatigue they are more susceptible to injury.......for hitters, when at 90%, do they perform at 90% of their ratings?  Or still at 100% but with just more chance of injury?

I was thinking about posting something here looking for an answer when the below discussion broke out in Arod......given that it doesn't appear there is much actual knowledge being bandied about and instead just some random speculation, I figured it was time to come to the big board.   Thanks for your insights in advance.

funhat Bishes 4/22/2011 6:31 PM So it sounds a lot like pitchers then, I never pitch someone under 90% and I always notice them perform more consistent when at 100%. Does 100% for a batter give him any bonus or is he just at 100% of his potential?
cebola Don Ceasars 4/22/2011 11:08 AM I've heard owners use the term "green means go.". Less than 90 is risky.

reigny Water Wolves 4/22/2011 10:15 AM The fatigue factor affects his overall performance. I had a guy in another world that was batting .322 and had no errors. His fatigue rating hit 90% and he suddenly went on a 2-31 streak and had 3 errors in 5 games.
reigny Water Wolves 4/22/2011 10:15 AM When fatigue level hits the 80's it is like the guy is swinging a concrete bat and rrunning in cement shoes. When he hits the 70's you're playing with injuries.
40_dog Sun Dogs 4/22/2011 3:26 AM if he is at 90% does that mean he will perform at 90% of his ratings?
funhat Bishes 4/22/2011 3:22 AM Higher chance to get injured is my understanding as well, the only thing I am sure about when it comes to fatigue & stamina lol
40_dog Sun Dogs 4/22/2011 2:02 AM Ive been wondering the same thing funhat. I generally try and keep guys around 97-100% but see a handful of the quality owners in this league playing guys in the low to mid 90's.
40_dog Sun Dogs 4/22/2011 2:02 AM What exactly does fatigue affect? aside from making a player more likely to get injured, or is that another false assumption on my part.
funhat Bishes 4/22/2011 12:29 AM So how much does a player suffer if he plays at like 95-98 stamina as opposed to 100? I'm trying to find numbers around the league
funhat Bishes 4/22/2011 12:29 AM (I wish it was easier to look at other people's starting roster stats without clicking everything manually) to find a trend or pattern with good teams compared to bad teams in this respect and I can't find any consistency.
funhat Bishes 4/22/2011 12:29 AM Like most player performances in WIS it seems completely random. Thoughts?

Can no one answer this question? Interesting...

I dont think there's much data to look at, because of the known injury risk.

There was a guy in my league that once started almost all of his pitchers in the low minors at 0% all season long.  None of these were necessarily great pitchers, but they were fairly typical of their level and if you look at their game logs you can see that they started out okay, but then as their fatigue went to and past zero they started getting bombed.  These guys got injured fairly frequently as well and so their ratings descended as the season progressed which fogs up the analysis a bit, but I think there's enough evidence to make the case that fatigue definitely has an impact on performance and that that impact can be major.  At what percentage it becomes significant is more difficult to deduce.

I agree rock.....that's the question, at what % does it become significant related to performance..............maybe a better question for all of you WIS legends would be at what % do you usually start looking at resting a position player ....97%.....95%...90%??

I rest at 98% for most of the season.  But when it gets late in the season and I'm fighting for wins, I will disregard the fatigue and push my guys as hard as I need to to get that playoff spot.   Exactly when I make that call (i/.e. game 130, game 140, game 150, etc.) is variable.

I'd rather make the playoffs with fatigued (and possible injured) players, than miss the playoffs with a fully rested roster.
