I recruited a player, Peter Edington, for my E. Stroudsburg U. team in IBA. I was getting low on funds yet he was the #125 ranked SG in the country, and being a DII school, I was happy that he called me back to say he was interested. However, with few funds, I  couldn't waste them on scouting the whole state. I did get in a couple scouting trips that told me his passing was HIGH, free throw shooting was HIGH, defense was average and that he was low on perimeter. I go for him, get him but it turns out that he was LOW in athleticism, speed and ball handling as well. That leaves me with what I can only describe as a perpetual freshman in terms of talent... playing only a few minutes a game.

Well... he's now about to finish up his JR year and he's sending me threatening emails telling me that I better play him more or he's leaving. I don't care. I hope he leaves. My questions are these....

1) Will he leave before recruiting starts, thus affording me that spots allotment of recruiting money?

2) How much, if any, will this affect my reputation?

3) Any other side effects?

1. IMHO he probably won't leave - they never seem to when you want them too. There's no way to be sure that I'm aware of. If he does leave of his own accord you would get scholarship money for his spot that season.

2. If he leaves it will, I believe, hurt your rep, maybe from A+ to A- or A...not sure.

3. If he leaves, theoretically it could inspire his buddies on the team to leave as well, but AFAIK it rarely happens, and first he has to actually leave, which is also apparently rare...

I dont think there is a meaningful rep hit when guys leave because they are unhappy about playing time in the absence of promises....but I cant be sure

NO REP HIT

Nope no promises of playing time.

Just me with the crazy assumption that a highly ranked DI recruit should have the ability to crack the rotation on a DII team. Silly me.
