It's more of an issue at 2b than 3b, but both definitely see their share of minus plays.
"Left handed shortstop" types (guy that throw left, but have the 4 key defensive ratings in the high 70's or low 80s) can play 3B about average; their numbers balance out the lefty effect. I personally think this is unreasonable, that the penalty should be larger; but it isn't, and you can take advantage of that.
You get just slaughtered on DPs if you try a lefty at 2B, though (I've played around with this in the minors).
