Which guy would you take in trade Topic

Have a trade option.  Which guy would you prefer to have.

BonoKlesko is an interesting SS type. Might not hit glove projections...but might.  Useful, useful

DionEldred is an interesting COF guy.  Speed, a bit of pop.

I'm leaning toward Klesko (I have to toss in some cash, too).

Who would you take?

Klesko looks like a AAAA guy to me. He won't come that close to SS defensive rec's, and the bat is relatively weak for 3B (and probably too weak for 1B/COF on a contending team).

Eldred is tougher to predict, because I can't see ADV projections and have no development to based my own thoughts on. I'm guessing though, as the 38th pick, he likely isn't projected to me anything special either. His power is unlikely to increase enough from 51 to make him a slugger at the ML level, and the speed, while solid, is limited by the fact he can't run the bases well.He too likely doesn't have a role on many contending teams.

So, all in all, it looks like one AAAA guy for another AAAA guy. Is Klesko the "better" of the 2? Probably, but Eldred is the unknown (maybe he actually *becomes* a legit ML guy) so I'd rather have him - and I certainly wouldn't spend any money on the potential upgrade of a marginal guy anyway.

+1 what zbrent716 said.  If you're just trading AAAA backups for AAAA backups with another team, fine.  But I wouldn't give away anything useful to get either of these guys and definitely wouldn't give up cash.  These guys are the kind of quality that you can find on the FA market any time of the year for pretty cheap.

I disagree slightly with the other two guys on Klesko.  I agree that, barring very high end development, Eldred won't hit enough to play COF, even off the bench. He's not the very worst platoon 3B I've ever seen...  he's the definition of AAAA.  But I think Klesko is going to be a very useful ML bench player.  He's going to have very strong range/arm, which will partially compensate for his (probable) mid-70s glove and AA, and his bat will play off the bench at MI or CF.  I think he'll develop to where you can play him against all LHP to rest your starting SS, 2B, and CF, and if you had to start him at CF or even 2B it wouldn't kill you.

Neither is worth giving up real quality... but if the trade otherwise works, I'd give cash to make it work for Klesko.

Forgot you guys might not be able to see projections:

Klesko=(defense) 99-86-85-85  (Bat) 49-53-60-43-93  He'll get close to bat projections, but his glove and AA will fall short.  Mid-70's is probably right. He's no starter, generally...but could be a valuable off the bench piece

Eldred=(defense) 69-84-60-64 (Bat) 48-69-76-64-78 (base running is 75)  He's a COF (could see some duty at 3B..but not much).  Could be valuable in a platoon.

I have a starting pitcher that I failed to sign long-term on his third arb.  I blew it. Now he won't sign with me and wants to test the FA market.  He's not bad, definately Type B, 50/50 Type A FA next year.  The trade would be for him.  I'm a border-line playoff team this year.  Could get hot, could collapse.
I could hold on to the pitcher and get the bonus picks next year, I suppose.  But freeing up the cash would allw me to be pretty active in the IFA market.....and sign my top two picks this year (#'s 23 & 29)

I have a very cabable young SS coming up, so I'm OK there. And it is generally pretty easy to find Eldred-type bats around.

Thanks for the advice.

I'd rather have the picks.

If kelsko's arm/glove reached the 80's he'd be a good defensive replacement, but 57 makeup makes it unlikely. +1 to what moe said. I'd rather have the picks, especially if you are lucky enough to have a guy with a 17-25 1st round pick sign him. I was real lucky a while back to have the #17 pick for a Type A. That would be  a much better guy than either of those two.
