Who to redshirt Topic

For my Springfield team in Smith I have narrowed this season's redshirt to either Gerald Kopf or Mark Morris. These are my 2 best freshmen guards this season and in quite a while. Kopf has high potential in Def (LH), LP (HH), Per (LH), BH (HH), and Pas (LH). Morris has high potential in Def (HH), Per (HH), Pas (unk.), and Sta (unk.).
(HH): high-high; (LH): low-high; (unk.): unknown.

My dilemma is Kopf is my best freshman, and I would love 4 strong years from him, which I could get after a redshirt. However, he could also contribute now and would most likely max out early senior year with his decent work ethic and playing time. Morris on the other hand has a much lower work ethic and will progress much slower, but a redshirt could give him enough time to develop. Also, Morris probably wouldn't be able to contribute right away like Kopf would.

Any additional concerns I should consider please let me know. Also, please feel free to ask any questions.

Note: I currently have Kopf redshirted but I have definitely not made up my mind yet.

the general rule is that a player will improve by about as much as their work ethic when you redshirt them though it's somewhat dependent on just how high the WE is and how much potential a player as...but in probably 8 out of every 9 or 10 redshirts i've done this has been pretty close to being true.

with a work ethic of 28, i dont think it's really worth it.  you have a pretty good team, but i dont think playing kopf makes you a national championship contender, so i'd put him in the stands and let him improve.

I'd go with Kopf.  Morris' work ethic is a little low for a redshirt, and he's also a better guard than Kopf imo opinion right now, and he can use the PT to boost his WE.

One way to look at this question is that whichever player you don't redshirt is going to be available to play.  Do you want that player to languish unproductively for a season?  You probably don't.  I don't know if you play a minutes based substituion pattern, but one of the advantages of that is the 4-8 minute start. You can start a freshman and slate them to play just a few minutes.  This will boost their work ethic rapidly without forcing them into playing a lot of minutes, should they be not ready for that.  If it were my team, I would pick the player who I thought could handle starting and playing 8 or 9 minutes per game and not ruining my season (or displacing players who are far superior at that position); the other player is the one I would redshirt. This way nothing is wasted.
