I'm in the early stages of my first time using Target Field with mixed results...anyone have any feedback/ideas for how  to properly use this place when putting a team together?

What has Target done to your teams?

As for hitters, unless you're drafting the big guys like 15' or 19' Cravath, Cy Williams, or Ruth, etc., who can pretty much hit HRs out of any park, I'd stay away from pure HR hitters and look for guys with speed who can steal bases and hit doubles and triples. As for pitchers, although Target is rated as a HR suppressing park with its -4 HR rating, its not as HR suppressing as it might appear because a lot of pitchers will still give up HRs there. notwithstanding its -4 rating. Therefore, inasmuch that I am partial to very good starting pitching, I would try to minimize the extra base hits that Target allows by drafting starting pitchers with a .200 OAV# or less.  They don't have to be zero HR guys, but rather, guys who don't give up inordinate amounts of  HRs.

Good luck.

Haven't played around with it too much, though it looks like fun, as all extreme parks are. Just remember that come October the new year of data will be in and Target will likely normalize. So if you invest a lot of time developing a killer Target Field field team it may be a wasted effort come fall.

So mix, according to your analysis only the elite hitters will hit HRs there, but pitchers still give up HRs.  How does that work?  Only the hitters on the other team can hit HRs?

And teal_leo, not that many owners spend a lot of time "developing a killer xxxx team."  Sure, there are some guys who run out very similar-looking teams over and over and over again, but most of us find that boring and actually try new things.

What I was saying Dahsdebater, or, at least TRYING to say, was that while Target has a -4 HR rating and, indeed, suppresses HRs, its not the HR suppressing park as its -4 rating would suggest, a la the Astrodome.  For example, take a HR machine pitcher like Gus Krock and put him in Target, and you'll likely find that he will still give up a ton of homers, even at home, despite Target's -4 rating.   I recently had Silver King pitching in Target in an OL, and if I recall, even he gave up just as many, if not more, HRs as in RL. So go figure.

Oh, and by the way Dahsdebater, there's a $160 mil cap league that I just joined (MLB95577).  It only has 7 spots left. Since you say OLs are boring, why don't we have some fun by you joining and we get placed in the same division. He he.

I stand corrected on the Silver King example. I was mistaken on his HRs allowed.  I just checked, and he only gave up 9 in 600+ innings at Target.

I like it. It's a good place for the deadball guys like Hamilton and Burkett. It doesn't kill their AVG like the Astrodome or Petco.

Wow, Jfranco, besides myself, you're the first person I've known to use Jesse. I love him.

I have nothing to add to this conversation as I have never used Target. Just want to point out that my late Father used to say "inasmuch" alot. Brought back fond memories, thanks.

Geez dahsdebater, I just meant it can be a fun challenge tinkering with different team types in a given stadium to find what works best. Didn't know I was pledging my eternal allegiance to the evil society of cookie cutter creators.

Just tried, it's full.  Good luck.
