Pitching vs Hitting Topic

I am almost finished with a team I just created, but I am debating on one thing, here is my two lineups and I am deciding which one to go with. The lineups are the same except with the catcher position and the addition/subtraction a few pitchers.

LINE-UP A

1) 1980 Miguel Dilone - OF
2) 1900 John McGraw - 3B
3) 1898 Billy Hamilton - OF
4) 2000 David Segui - 1B
5) 1938 Earle Brucker/ 1936 Billy Sullivan - C
6) 1999 Omar Vizquel -SS
7) 1992 Bip Roberts -2B
8) Pitcher
9) 1981 Tim Raines -OF

Pitchers---
'08 Addie Joss, '09 Jack Pfiester, '18 Fred Toney, '19 Art Nehf, '25 Elmer Steele, '09 Larry Pape, '15 Cy Falkenberg, '04 Chick Robitaille, '06 Dennys Reyes, '88 Frank Gilmore

LINE-UP B

1) 1980 Miguel Dilone - OF
2) 1900 John McGraw - 3B
3) 1898 Billy Hamilton - OF
4) 2000 David Segui - 1B
5) 1999 Omar Vizquel - SS
6) 1992 Bip Roberts - 2B
7) 1981 Tim Raines - OF
8) Pitcher
9) 1892 Tom Daly - C

Pitchers---
All the same except with the addition of '02 Bill Bernhard, '41 Johnny Allen and the subtraction of '88 Frank Gilmore and '07 Jack Pfiester.

I am having a hard time deciding whether to go with a big upgrade in my catchers hitting and losing pitching or keeping a good value catcher and having solid pitching all the way around. Basically I would just like input on whether to go with two very good hitting catchers and losing '02 Bernhard and '41 Allen, or stick with '92 Tom Daly and have all 1,250-1,300 IP be quality IP.

My home field would be Target Field. I have created my entire team and I am just looking for some input on which decision would be a better way to go. I am not trying to have someone else create my team for me. This is my last team for a while and I have put a lot of thought in it. Please no posts ridiculing me if you think this post is not suitable for the sim forum. I am just looking for a little help with this decision. Thanks for all your input.

Don't worry too much about the batting order.  Just order them by descending number of PA and you'll be happy over the course of the season.

the quality IP team would be easier to manage. The other team may be at a disadvantage during the regular season but if you succeed you may have a better playoff team. That's the generic answer, I didn't study the numbers here. Gilmore looks awful, Daly doesn't look that bad.

B,  hands down.

I would also go with team B as well.  I'm with llamanuts with the batting order but with one exception.  I think it would be a significant upgrade to bat McGraw 1st and Dilone 2nd.  McGraw has a lot of value because he walks a ton.  Dilone has a lot of value because of his high BA and speed.  What would you rather have, a hit then a walk or a walk then a hit?  Dilone batting 2nd will also decrease the number of DP's you will hit into.  Other then that, which can be debated, looks like a great team.

I'd go Raines then McGraw... Dilone is more valuable as a 5th or 6th hitter  IMHO

I don't think this user is appropriate for this forum.  Boogers belong in the pit.

Dilone batting first is a fatigue issue which will force you to juggle the lineup more than you may like regardless of which team you choose. I would always err on the side of pitching over a better hitting catcher.

Why pitcher in the 8th hole?

I went with team B, and have Omar Vizquel batting 2nd with McGraw batting 1st. I know the PAs will be an issue with McGraw but there are other guys I can put in the 1 hole when he gets tired, and I think hell have a lot more value batting 1st with his OBP. Thanks for all your input guys, much appreciated.

If the rest of your lineup is scoring runs, Raines in the nine spot is perfect, inasmuch that he not only will turn the lineup over with his OBP, he'll also be in scoring position, via a stolen base, for your leadoff hitter. I always hit my pitcher 8th and a good OBP guy 9th.
