They all belong to me, but assuming that these guys were equal in the field (they aren't).... Who would you rather have (as a hitter)?
DonnNewman (offensive numbers 92-60-81-71-71 speed 79, makeup 74)
JosiasTerrero (offensive numbers 27-77-83-66-78 speed 97, makeup 55 )
WilfredoHernandez (offensive Numbers 52-79-62-53-81 speed 67, makeup 99)
They are three different guys, certainly with different skill sets. Going purely by the numbers, you would assume (or, at least, I would) that Newman would clearly be the better hitter. However, that isn't happening. All three have enough career AB's (Newman 3222, Terrero 2207, Hernandez 1212) to even out much of the season to season peaks and valleys we all see.
And yet, as of today, their career numbers are entirely simlar......With Newman being the poorest hitter of the three. Go figure!
Newman's are .264-.333-.431 (OPS 764), Terrero's are .264-.329-.485 (OPS .814), Hernandez's are .262-.329-.460 (OPS 789).
Terrero had a smoking rookie year, .300-.365-.537...but if you take away that year you basicilly have three players, with quite different numbers, who produce quite identically.
I can not understand why Newman does not product more. He has decent makeup and speed...and fine -to-great contact, VR, & VL #'s, He should be a career .300+ hitter, yet his career high is .282. That was his only time above .270. He's currently hitting .244.
Interesting (to me) performances....and not what I would expect.
