These three standard practice emails, what's the difference in how you should reallocate the practice minutes?

Hey Coach, I'm not sure how much we're gaining by spending so much time working with Joe Peterson on XXXXXX. He just doesn't seem to be making much more progress there.

I've been spending extra time working with Joe Peterson on his XXXXX and unless you have any other ideas, that's all I can get from him.

After continuing to work with Gerald Blanchette, I think we're wasting time if we continue spend EXTRA time working on his jumpshot. Maybe we can better use that time elsewhere?

I view them as the same - but maybe I'm wrong

I cut all of those to 0 minute of practice ASAP.

Really, all the way to zero?  Do you wait until those stats go negative a little then put points back in after that to build them back up?

they almost never go down at all. If they do, never more than a point or two total. Those categories are done. Use the minutes elsewhere.

I used to not change FT to zero, but far better coaches than me have said it's safe to do...

Good stuff, thanks!

They generally don't go negative. On rare occasions you'll drop a point, and if you do, just shift minutes back in until you regain it and then zero the category out again.

In the meantime, your minutes are going to build up categories in which the player still has growth room.

So when most of the categories are maxed out, do you guys have 20+ 30+ in the few remaining categories? Where do all of those minutes go once growth has slowed down or stopped? Just curious...

gradually, minutes migrate toward categories that have not maxed out - if I have done my job right during a kids senior year he will max out on just about all the categories.  At that point, I usually spread them around to avoid any reductions in skillz.  Another option - if it works for several of your guys - is to shift the minutes to team practice, but of course that affects ALL players not just maxed players

Wow, you learn something new every day - I'd been keeping either 3 or 7 mins in maxed-out categories because I was worried about the ratings dropping quickly. Glad I saw this post and responses.

Just to note.... I posted an example the other day where I got an email that a player was maxed out at 98 REB.... couple weeks later he increased to 99 even after I cut the minutes back down to 10.
