Resigning a big time pitcher Topic

I have the opportunity to trade for a big time pitcher who as at the age of 30 right now.  He is on the final year of his contract.  If I trade for him, will I have any problems signing him?  I thought I heard that these players can be difficult to hold on to.

Tell him to resign him before you trade.

or at least make sure he will resign.

What is his patience rating? If it's above 65 (and he hasn't been taken to arbitration each time, which is unlikely if he's really that good), then he'll likely re-sign, but he'll most likely test free agency if his rating is below that. If it's below 55, he most certainly will. (I'm not sure we've ever established the exact cutoff with patience, as relates to re-signing.)
