After recruting redshirting Topic

Okay, bear with me please.  I know I should have tried to inform of redshirt during recruiting, but I haven't played HD in a couple years and I had forgotten some of the ins and outs (or never knew them).

In searching through topics on this issue, I read someone making reference to zhawks"s method for accomplishing this, but for the life of me I can't find his post(s) regarding this.

I have two freshman PGs and want to redshirt one of them, but both are declining and accusing me of "waffling".   I was hoping that I could get one to redshirt before exhibitions were done (which now are), but haven't been successful.

One PG I have been playing in exhibition, and one I haven't.  I've been alternating trying to redshirt both of them, but now that non-conference is starting I am going to start the one that has been playing in exhibition, but keep the other off the depth chart and keep trying to redshirt him throughout the year.

Can anyone tell me exactly what zhawks's method is?

Also, will keeping the one I'm trying to redshirt off the depth chart negatively effect his attribute development?

Also, I really want to keep some seperation at each position as far as graduating class goes.  If he never agrees to redshirt and I cut him before next season, how badly will my reputation/loyalty be effected?

And last question (on a somewhat related topic), I know that having too many walkon's negatively effects practices.  Is it 1 or 2 walkons that are okay to have?

Thanks!

I'll give a brief recap of zhawk's method, which I had used successfully 13 straight seasons (until this one, when for some reason it didn't work) to get a redshirt accepted without informing:

1. It works best to try to RS a guy who is one of at least 3 at his listed position. Doesn't matter where you plan to play him - just that he sees at least 2 older guys at his listed position.
2. Don't play him at all in the two exhibitions. Leave him off your depth chart.
3. Try to RS him after the 2nd exhibition. This usually works. If he rejects it, take the RS off, continue to leave him off the depth chart, and try again every 2 games. Rinse and repeat until he (hopefully) accepts. Some guys never do, but like I said, my success rate with this has been great. Even this year, my freshman who didn't accept during exhibition season did finally take it after 7 games.

Keeping the RS target off the depth chart won't negatively affect his development. Obviously his WE won't grow, but it won't decrease either unless you promised him mins or starts.

As far as walk-ons, I believe one doesn't hurt at all, but you start seeing much more of a negative impact at 2+.

Interestingly, this is the first season that I've had trouble red-shirting without informing as well...

I've also noticed that it has become very difficult to get someone to accept a redshirt  without informing over the past season. And I'm talking about guys that are around 520 overall at D1 refusing a redshirt. I never had any difficulty with that before, but I'm like 1-for-5 over the past season or so with 3 different teams. Could be just a run of bad luck, but it seems like something's different.

This is pretty much the method I've used.  Trying to RS before the first exhibition rarely works for me.  But if I leave the (usually 2) players out of the rotation during exhibition play and just wait, I've had better luck getting them to take it after they see they're not playing.

It's never 100%, of course, but bhansalid00's method seems to give the best chances.

Based on what you, zbrent and I have all experienced, I'm wondering if they tweaked the logic for this. I didn't see anything in release notes about it, but who knows. Definitely something I'll keep an eye on for next season.

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
By the way, I sent in a CS ticket to ask if anything's been changed in the logic for RS'ing without informing. They said no.

Would not work for me this season.  There was a change you would think based on all this reportage.  Closing the loophole may not be changing the "logic" in their mind.
