Starting 5 Can All Shoot 3's? Topic

The guys above are the highest per D3 PF in Tark. You had a positive outlier with mccabe, but the average % for bigs with mediocre per is much lower. I'm sure there are bigs out there with 40 per and is 40% on 50 3pters taken.

Hogan Pryce and Norwood won't be effective 3 pt shooters but the PG/SG combo can shoot the lights out.
Just curious.  Why wouldn't they be effective 3pt shooters?
The bare minimum per for me to shoot 3 is 70. Generally, I won't set anyone to +1 until they have 80+ per.
I've had plenty of guys shoot 35%+ from 3 pt range with only 50 PER if set to -1.  Heck, some in the 40's.  Why such a high barameter?

Because it's about efficiency. A player can be a 50% 3pt shooter, but if he's 90% from the 2pt range, I would have him shoot 0 3s and just take 15ft jumpshots all day. 35% from the 3pt land seems good in real life, but shooting % in HD is higher than RL. 35% = 52.5% from 2 pt land, but he also will not draw fouls (so no potential 3 pt play) or fouling out your opponent's starter. I go with the route that is more efficient and I perceive the 70 per is what's needed to have a 3pt shooter make over 38% (and generally over 40%) of their 3s.

For example, this guy's Sophomore season:

His 3pt % is over the 35% mark, but look at his 2pt %, he was 95 for 184, or 51.6% from the 2 pt range. That's pretty close to the eFG of the 3 pt shots (around 52.5%) but then you throw in the fouls and ft, he's more efficient from the 2pt range rather than from beyond the arc.

He's now at 73 per in his JR year and now at over 40% from beyond the arc. He's now more efficient from 3pt range than 2pt range. I should be setting him to +1 but I haven't since I have 2 high volume 3 pt shooters (99per and 86 per on this team already, accounting for 40 pts from the 3pt range) so I need some balance in offense.
