Recruiting with no scholarships Topic

I have a team with no seniors that graduated last year, so during recruiting I have no scholarships. I'd like to replace one player. I found a player I like, and he said that unless something changes by signing time, I have a player. BUT, he is still not considering me. Is this because I still have no open scholarships listed? I have offered him a scholarship. I just didn't want to cut the current player on my roster yet, in case someone swoops in and takes the guy I like and I would be stuck with a walk-on. But, if I need to cut him to get this one to consider me, I think I will do that. Has anyone had any  experience with this before?

you have to cut him to get considered. With no open 'ships you can't be considered. Since you are getting scholarship emails, you can still wait to see if he gets scooped up by someone else, but of course you won't show as considering on the kids page, which could be good or bad (or both really depending on the situation). I don't know what FSS will say. It may just report the straight dope. If you don't mind not showing as considering wait til the last cycle before signings and then cut your player. Assuming no one jumps on your kid at the last minute he'll either sign at 8 or get considering at 8 and sign at 11.

OK thanks for the good advice. The advantage of cutting the player now is that if he's considering someone, he's a little less likely to be recruited by another team if they are searching "undecided" players. I didn't even buy future stars. I did 2 scouting trips, and it does not sound like he has high potential. But he's got good Rebounding, which was the glaring weakness of my 2-25 team last year, and the Senior I would cut is pretty much a scrub.

Chapelhill, if the SR you would cut is a scrub, go ahead and cut him.  Sounds like he wouldn't play this year anyway, so it would be absolutely no big deal if you got stuck with the walk-on.

You may want to edit your post and cut out the amount of funds you had.  No reason to make it so easy to poach the guy.

He probably sucks anyway, but that's a good idea.

He's a scrub, but my team is full of scrubs unfortunately, so he's a scrub with a good IQ :)

Chapelhill, your real problem is four small forwards, none of whom rebound enough to help out up front, where you only have three guys including the "scrub." This team needs fewer small forwards and more power forwards/centers.

Yeah - The rebounding really was bad last year. My new Center is already the #2 rated rebounder on my team.

Wow - just adding the rebounder, and one more year of experience for my players made a huge difference. We went from 2-25 to 18-9.  I will always be sure to have at least a couple of really strong rebounders on the team.
