I have a plethora of fantastic setup guys (8 guys with vs. RHB over 78) and a derth of good pitchers with stamina above 50.  My starters are good.

Wondering if anyone has tried going with 7 setup guys and 1 closer with the 5 starters.  Half of the setup guys have great DUR of 60+ while the other half have in the 40s...staminas range from 20-40.

I am thinking about trying this and seeing if it works out...it definitely puts my best players out there but I wonder if I will run into fatigue issues.

I could also try trading 2-3 of the setup guys and hopefully get a nice starter and move my 5th starter to long relief.  But not sure if I will get anywhere near the value.

I usually run a 4 man rotation (with conservative pitch counts) and all or most setup guys. As long as your overall staff has sufficient durability (insert punchline here) fatigue won't be an issue. I have found no siginificant benefit in distinguishing LR vs SR as long as you have quality arms that can rack up 1460 IP over a season.

Having said that, you mention the vR split on your guys, hopefully you have a couple good lefties too.

Don't forget to set a couple of those guys with longer stamina to be able to come in at any point in the game in case of injury or a 1st inning shelling.

+1, I used to run with no LRs, and did just fine, however I came into a couple pretty good SPs and shifted the 2 worst SPs to LR and are happy with the way things are going.  8 SR guys will definately get the job done with the dur sta combos you mention.

Until you play a 19 inning game...

I run a 4 man rotation but I usually like a pitcher who can play long relief that I generally use as a mopup/spot starter.

I throw my LR guys into setup roles. No worries.

I just go with 9 closers.  I figure if they each pitch one inning and shut em down I dont even need starters, which saves a ton of bucks.
