Will this RP's Control make him not viable? Topic

Stamina 13
Control  55
vL  95
vR 99
Velocity  88
Groundball   90
P1  89
P2  69
P3  51

Can this make a viable closer?  Or will the control of 55 be problematic?

The control hurts, of course, but with his ratings generally he'd be a good overall (if a bit erratic) RP.

Closing might be a bit tough because of the 13 Stamina and - even if he doesn't give up runs - the higher BB I'd expect will drive up his pitch count quickly and either force him to come out of the game (so not "closing") or pitch while fatigued (not usually a good thing).

He will for sure be a good enough setup type guy

This guy got a late start on his ML career, but has proven to be a viable setup man with numbers inferior to your guy's:

With splits, vel and GB averaging 93, I don't think this should even be a debate because control is 55.

If he reaches all of those projections (which I'm assuming those numbers are), he'll be pretty good. His STA would be fine at closer if it's offset by a decent (40+ ) DUR, but he'll strike out and walk a lot of hitters with those numbers, which will cost him a lot of pitches per appearance.

I would expect him to throw up a stinker of a season every couple of years, though, similar to what maxdeardorff's guy is on his way to doing, because his innings pitched will always be pretty low and some of those walks will haunt.

Those are his projecteds with my ADV at 20M.  He is 90 percent to them now with a P coach of 98 so I expect him to hit those numbers.  His Durability is 64 so he should be able to pitch quite a bit I just don't know if his control coupled with his stamina will make for two batters and done.  If he can toss 40 innings a year and dominate in those innings he may prove useful.

I used to pass on guys with low control but I've been using them a bit more now, especially when they have other ratings to make up for it.  If your guy has splits like 95/99, he should be a stud even with 55 control.

He'd be a viable pitcher with 35 control and splits like that. Control is overvalued in most worlds.

I have a reliever:

Control: 42
vsL: 67
vsR: 85
Vel: 24
GB: 40
P1: 77
P2: 67
P3: 60

Who has a 1.38 WHIP and a 4.01 ERA over about 400 innings. I think he's getting a bit lucky, but 80+ splits go a looooonnngg way. 90+ go even further.
