question from someone else in a recruiting battle who doesn't want to 'broadcast weakness'.  what does it mean if you are the only person on a player's considering list, but the word on the street still says he's leaning towards another school?  Can a player be leaning towards a school he isn't considering?

Depends on the situation.  I've had situations where someone else is putting in recruiting effort, but isn't on the list yet.  It's also possible that the player is "almost" out of your league and would jump to a different school with better prestige, more money, etc.

Based on what you're saying, I would say another school is recruiting him, too, but you have put the most effort in so far.

I usually get the "player is leaning to X school, but is open to offers" when a player is a little higher than the prestige of my school.  It doesn't mean anyone else is on that particular player.

But that's just my observations and opinion.

One thing to check - if it's before signings that school may have 12 scholarship players but be putting in effort with the intention of cutting a player just before signings if they think they can win the guy.
