I have 2 pitchers vying for an lone ML SP spot.

Villafuerte, while a year older, can still wait until I have to put him on the 40 man roster. Santos is rule 5 this year and has to be put on the 40. I am a little pressed for space on the 40 but could make room for Villafuerte if he was going to the ML.

Which one would you choose?

I think you get about the samething out of both guys.  A bunch of innings and an ERA north of 4.5!  Santos will walk more guys but is better against RHB.  Villafuerte has the better pitch.  I think it would decide on who has the bigger upside.  We can't see projections, of course.  There is, of course, a good chance that both will start for you this year....assuming that a starter or two gets nicked.

I think I would be tempted to go with Villafuerte, but I don't like that vR much.

But as #5's who won't wear your bullpen out, both will do fine.  They mighthave ERA's north of 5, in fact. 

I would go with Santos as a SP due to his pitches and slightly better groundball ratio.

If you're a contender and have some cash, I'd go with (c), a reasonably priced free agent.  Both guys figure to have ERA's of about 5 in a neutral park.  Otherwise agree with Mike.

I agree with Mike too. I'm a little strapped for space on the 40, so I'll save the spot for now.
