Player's 3 Pt. Settings from -2 to +2 Topic

I got this player who has 80 PE & 60 LP. Now by logical sense, being that he's ration from perimeter to low post is above average, You would think that you should set his 3 Pt. settings to +1. However, I'm not sure if this necessarily means that they are taking more 3pts than they should or not. Typically on average if a player has equally good in PE & LP then they still make most of their shots within the 2pt zone than 3pt. So I don't know if +1 sends the message to my player to shoot 3pts even more than you should, I can see in stats that about 45% of his shots are perimeter and that sounds a bit higher than I'd want him to. So do you think this is normal to set such player at +1 or should I do 0?

There are a bajillion variables but, regardless of the variables, he will try more 3's at +1 than 0. It may be a lot more or just a little bit more but it will be more. A good rule of thumb to start with is his shooting %. If it's eye-popping good then go ahead and increase it. If he's missing all his bombs then dial him down. You get the idea.

As an aside, it drives me nuts (in a good way) to have a guard who shoots 3's fairly OK but is also an A+ free throw shooter. Do I want him shooting from the perimeter or going inside to get fouled?

I'm with you re: a guard who can shoot from beyond the arc and is terrific from the line.

If the opposing guard is weak defensively but strong offensively,. I would probably go inside against a man to man - to try to foul him out.
