98 point work ethic drop??? Topic

so I recruited a C as a juco this year that i liked last season but didn't have a scholly for.  he signed, but as I don't need him til next year I figured a redshirt was in order, especially as he has a 99 work ethic so would still see a significant gain.  I know that there is usually a work ethic drop when you don't inform beforehand, but as his w/e was so high, I figured I could absorb even a 30-40 point drop without worry.

so I get the respionse e-mail, and WHAM, 98 point drop all the way down to one.  he's embarrassed, ****** off, etc.  I had to rescind of course, but am wondering if anyone else ever had such a massive drop before??

I had a juco this year (sophomore) whose WE was 86 that I want to redshirt. He went all the way down to 1 just like your situation. I ended up obviously not redshirting him. He didnt play much during the season and his WE dropped 15 points to 71 and he did not improve very much, I guess cause he was ******. I started giving him some PT at the end of the year in hopes that he wont leave the team.

To me, it certainly seems that it is extremely difficult to redshirt a juco without taking on a massive, if not complete hit in work ethic.

It may be difficult but it's not impossible.  Check out my Assumption team in Phelan.  Redshirted JuCo James Blake with no problem.

Redshirted this player last year as a JUCO (JR). Some players are definitely programmed to be more or less likely to take a RS.

Also you can keep trying the RS and it might eventually work. I've had it work recently after about 5-6 rejections, and there's no harm in continuing to try.

JUCOs are pretty much all-or-nothing props as to taking a RS.  If they take it, cool.  If not, it usually means a drop to 1 WE.
