I guess no one sees why this is a problem, so I guess I'll try to explain a bit further. This will have benefited me twice this season.
#1: I had last season's Cy Young winner go down with an injury midseason. After his injury, I figured that he would be back for Game 1 of the World Series if I made it. However, since I didn't count the Place Holder days as injury recovery days also, he was actually available to pitch Game 7 of the NLCS. Since that was the case, I was able to roster him and remove a crappy pitcher. And since I knew the Cy Young winner would be back, I was able to pitcher my top 3 current pitchers in 1-6. Had he not been available for a deciding game 7, I would have slid in my #4 starter into Game 4, so that my top 3 guys were available for Games 5-7 without having to worry about them not recovering on time and because I don't know that my #1 could go 1, 4, and 7.
#2: I have a huge power bat who was Rookie of the Year last year that would have been due back for Game 7 of the World Series. Rostering a hitter for 1 game is something that I would not do. It would leave my bench short, especially during the middle games in the NL which would be a problem and would leave pitchers pinch hitting in probable crucial situations. And another mid-series injury would cripple my bench depth. But, since he is now going to be available for over half the series, I have removed a pretty terrible bench guy and replaced him with the power bat.
