#1 pick in the draft or this ITL FA? Topic

I am in a caped prospect budget league. And I have the #1 pick in the coming draft. The league is in season six. And I am yet to see a SP like this guy come threw the draft. I feel I will have to go all in to land this player. I have no 2nd or 3rd round picks.

I have 17mill in Itl Scouting

             20mill in Collage Scouting

               0mill in High School Scouting

The player -  Diego Santiago

Any feed back would be great

Thanks

I'd venture to say that anytime you can get a stud pitcher, you do it.  Not sure what your draft prospects look like, but I'd go after the international pitcher.

No prospect yet. We are in the first week the season.

I am going to bump this hoping that some of the people that looked in at the bad link will look again and give me some insight.

Thanks

Personally I take my chances with the draft. My assumption is that you should get an All Star caliber player in the draft. Without knowing what your cap is, that still should leave you plenty of cash for a decent IFA. Best case scenario, you get a pitcher even better than that, plus an above avg player in the IFA. Worst case, you end up with an excellent player who doesn't happen to be a SP and leftover prospect money. I think that's a good risk/reward.

I agree with Dwoolery, this guy is good, but is he good enough to kill your chances at a 1st OA pick?  I dont think so.  Especially when you have 20mill in college scouting.  You are going to see some awesome players with that budget.

You get much better value for your money from the draft than you do from IFA.  I wouldn't pass on the #1 overall.  Let somebody else blow their prospect budget ina  bidding war.

I think I am going to sit this one out. We are caped at 30mill for a prospect budget. And think some will max it out and pass on all there draft picks to get him. It hapend before for a Golden Glove SS with 70's across. The teams first draft pick was not until the 25-30 range.

You might as well jump in up to $25 mil if you can get that high (I'm assuming its a $30 mil prospect cap for every team, just not what you can get to?)  That would leave you with $4 mil for a "will sign for slot" money pick at #1, which may or may not be the best player you can see, but should be pretty good. plus another $1 mil for lower round picks to round out the rookie level and future Low A level if needed.

Why is your prospect budget caped?

He's not worth the #1 AND and nice IFA you can sign, anyway.

I'd drop 20mil on him to see how high others will go. If you get him for 20mil then you have 10 mil to sign your #1 and the rest of the guys you get drafted so you're not running short in rookie league.

My philosophy is if you see an IFA and have prospect money, bid up to what you think he is worth/may go for, regardless of your slot in the draft and whether all of your prospect money will be gone.  The idea is to add a solid player to your system.

The IFA bidding will only last a few (real) life days then be gone....you can draft whoever you want and have the rest of the season to sign him.  You may have to 'make' some money to do this by trades or whatnot and may end up with the IFA guy and your top draft pick, or at the very least offer him his min demands and secure the slot.

The thing to remember is to bid on an IFA you really want/need and not just to be spending money, he needs to be worthy of the draft pick you could ultimately lose, but the things is you get much more time to sign a draft pick than you do an IFA guy.  Use this time to your advantage if you can.
