How's this for trying to redshirt a guy when you did not use the "Inform of Redshirt" button?

"These b***es tried to f**k me over," Gardner Tweeted late Thursday, according to a screen shot grabbed by the Clarion-Ledger's Brandon Marcello. "That’s y I red shirted .. But I wish my homies a great as* season.. I don’t even know y I’m still here"

I will think twice before trying to argue that the player's WE should not go down to 1 because "that would never happen in real life..."




Rick Stansbury dismissed D.J. Gardner from the Mississippi State basketball team on Friday. The development came a day after Stansbury announced the heralded freshman would redshirt, and less than 15 hours after Gardner publicly expressed his displeasure with the coaching staff via Twitter.

Gardner is an in-state product who averaged 32 points and 10 rebounds as a high school senior.

He chose Mississippi State over Memphis.

Good example kind of... he is not upset about being redshirted. He wanted the redshirt. He is upset becuase he feels like he was not going to get as much playing time as he was promised during recruiting and that is why he asked for a redshirt season.

When he narrowed his choices to Mississippi St., Memphis, and Auburn, his mother said, "DJ has to challenge himself,. If he goes somewhere that is easy and it is just handed to him, then he will not reach his full potential. If he goes somewhere where there are guys who are equal or better, that means he will have to step his game up and play harder. I don’t want him to go somewhere where everything is handed to him. I want him to work for it. I think he’ll appreciate it more.”

"D.J. Gardner's mother told the newspaper he approached his coaches about redshirting his freshman year after being told he would be part of a three-player rotation at the guard position.

"It's like they sold him a dream," she said.

But Angela Gardner said she couldn't defend the Twitter postings."
