This is one of the nitpik things that bugs me about the game. I'm in a conference that has 3 "conference" champions. Does WIS not understand the difference between a Division, and a Conference? I tied with one of my "division" foes at the end of the regular season and of course my team, my divisional foe team, and the team with the best record in the other division all received the "conference Champion" label.
It reminds me of my boys t-ball team. Everyone gets a trophy. :) All in fun.
