I know re-shirt freshman count toward the class limit of 6, but do players who were ineligible count?  I submited a ticket but would like a quicker response than WIS is known for.

Yes, they count.

It's about listed year.  So if he takes an ineligible year, he counts as a freshman when he's not playing, then a sophomore in his first year on the court.

So he does or doesn't count?  cornfused- are you saying he doesn't count to the incoming freshman class but to the sophomore class?

he counts against your freshman class his first season.

if he was ineligible he counts against your soph class his second season.  if he was redshirted, he counts against your freshman class his second season as well.

I recruited him last season and he sat out as an ineligible. I then had a mass exodus leaving me with 8 open spots.  I've recruited 6 incoming freshman, 1 SR, and 1 Jr.

My roster currently has 2 SR's, 1 JR, and 1 SO (the ineligible I recruited last season).  So if I were able to get my targets my classes would look like this?

3 SR's (2 current and 1 recruit)
2 JR's (1 current and 1 recruit)
1 SO (although he has 4 years of eligibility if he qualifies)
6 Frosh

These Freshman won't stay all 4 years, but if they do, would I have a problem in their Senior year with class size if the ineligible qualifies for a 5th season?

That's a tough one.  It's possible that WIS won't let you recruit 6 freshmen since the inactive sophomore would give you 7 seniors later on. .

But I suspect the program isn't that sophisticated and you'll be OK

I agree with al and think the difference could be as simple as the SR/5 designation.

That said, if I had 1 of my 6 I liked less than the others, I'd probably recruit him like everyone else but not offer until after the rest signed...

Your current:
3 SR
2 JR
1 SO (was an ineligible)
6 Frosh

Will be:
3 graduated
5 graduated
1 Sr/5
6 Sr

And that's just fine.  I'm 95% positive.  But NC's suggestion of waiting to offer a scholly on your least favorite of the six is, if still possible, probably wise - why take that 5% chance?

I believe the SR/5 will be counted differently from the other SRs as well.

You can recruit 6 freshmen.  It's not impossible to generate a 7 or even 8 man class, just to recruit into one.  If you recruit 6 guys and don't redshirt any of them you can't recruit a sophomore the next year or a junior the following.  But you could recruit 6 freshmen then redshirt that guy next year and have 7 juniors the following season.  So whether or not SR/5 counts the same as SR is irrelevant - as long as it doesn't give you more than 6 at the time, you can recruit the guys.

For those interested here is the response from customer service:

Hi jamier,
He'll count as whatever year he is listed at so he's counted as a sophomore.

I'm 100% positive this is the case.  The Sr/5 kid won't cause any problems if all of your incoming freshmen stick around.  So, you'll graduate 7 that year....and that's permissible under these circumstances.
