what does other mean in PH settings Topic

In this game:  http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/Boxscore.aspx?gid=39893870&pbp=0

I have a leadoff hitter R. Hunt, that is pinch hit for in the ninth inning (down 2 runs) by H. Mateo, who is no where near the hitter.  Now, Mateo hit a triple, but thats not the point.

I checked my setting for vs left pitchers, and the only time that Mateo is before Hunt is the "other" category.  What does Other entail?  For power Hunt is #4, Mateo is #12, for contact hunt is #6, Mateo is #8 vs lefties, but in Other Mateo is #2 and Hunt #7.

I would imagine with no one on in the ninth, down by two, you need a contact hitter up there, or the all around better hitter...

I actually don't know what "Other" means.  For that reason I don't list players there.  Curious to hear what the answer is.

My guess is that you're overthinking.  I take it to mean all other situations besides contact and power.

you are also overthinking the PH settings in total i believe.  You only need to rank your bench players.  Simmy decides when to PH for a guy.  In other words, no need to list your stud #3 hitter as #1 in all of the PH settings, you could list him last or not at all, and he shouldn't get PH for, unless you have a better option on your bench.

I thought that it was the heirachy of who you would want to hit in that situation, therefore if your current batter is higher on the list (for the setting that you have) then you would never have a pinch hitter, but if someone on your bench is higher than the current player, and it is considered a critical time, where either power or contact (or other...) is needed, then they would go to the bench.

no...it is the "pinch hitting" heirachy...not the "who bats" heirachy.  you are only determining the order of bench players you would like to pinch hit.  simmy looks at your heirachy...compares it to who is coming up, and decides to PH or not

From the "Help" for the PH Hierarchy page:

Other - Situations that are not late and close but call for a pinch hitter will use the Other setting.

So if Babe Ruth is taking a regular day off but you are down 2 in the 9th with 2 on you would rather not have the option to have him hit at all and instead go with your everyday bench player?

Unless you have the time to edit all of those setting every cycle. If so more power to you.

I always have my starters listed in the PH heirarchy. As usfbully said, when you are giving a starter a day off, you would still want him available to PH in a crucial situation late in the game. Doesn't matter who's listed on the heirarchy. Simmy will pick the next best guy who has't played yet for the game situation. I'd rather that be my stud 1B who's getting a day's rest than my backup SS.

different strokes for different folks...when I rest a starter...I REST him.  if the game is in a pennant race and is that important, i won't rest my best player
