ODL XXXVI Team composition and discussion Topic

So anyhow, I'm not gonna win 60 but I will probably win 50 and my division, and that's as much bragging as I intend to do.

Why I am posting is to look for to see if anyone has some thoughts as to why McHale is shooting 1 point above his IRL average and Moncrief is shooting 5.5 points below his IRL average:

If the sim is this advanced (BIG IF) I would say that it has something to do with the fact that Moncrief is your main distributor of the ball (since it appears you are low in assists) and his usage is being used as a facilitator more than as a scorer.

McHale...I chalk that up to ebb and flow and the hamster stopping on his number more than Barkley's in the ENIAC like servers in good ole Cincy.

Are you running half court?

And the sim isn't that advanced, Malone.  That's why everybody's ast% is lower than it really is IRL:  They do the formula without taking that player's FGM out of the formula... so, in essences, a player's ast% not only helps his teammates shoot better, it helps him shoot better.

Figure out (the logic behind) that one.

yes half court and that's your answer apple.

Probably the most uneven ODL ever.  West conference has only 4 teams with winning records, while 38-34 is out of the playoffs in the east.

I like Apple's team though.  Found a way to use McHale and get rebounds elsewhere.

He's still suffering a pretty huge possession disadvantage.

Do you mean I am giving up 1.5 more OReb than I am getting, or are you talking about something else?  I agree that it is not where I would like it, and I thought it was something that was going to happen.

Also, is it guards who shoot better when you play uptempo, and Bigs stay about the same?  I definetely noticed that FG% (and TOs) go up when you run uptempo, but I never bothered to research how it effected individual players.

1)  I mean you're giving up more offensive boards than you're getting AND you're turning the ball over more times per game than your opponent.  If you can average five more possessions a game than your opponent AND shoot 5% better from the field, you should be a 70-win team no matter what cap or theme you're playing in.

2)  Everyone shoots better when you run up-tempo.  I'm not convinced that the percentage of your possessions that ends in a turnover goes up at all - only the total number of them - and that's what's important.

Turn-over percentage does go up with up-tempo, but, for most to all teams, total offensive effency does go up as well.  (more ORs, better FG%)  At the beginning of the season, I was getting so many turnovers that I was thinking that I had actually managed to hit on a formula where my efficency might be going down and I just haven't changed it.  Now, the superstitious part of my mind won't let me change it back.

(11-8 Up Tempo 42-18 half court)

I am not convinced that tempo has anything to do with turnover percentage.  Sorry, I don't doubt you had issues, but I've done quite a bit of testing on the matter.  The only time it causes the percentage to go up is when personal possession penalties kick in.  Take a team with 16 or more usage tier points and run it three seasons on all three paces... you'll see more turnovers with the faster pace, but the percentage of turnovers will remain really close (without being able to control your opponent, you'll never get complete control over the experiment) to the same.
