Draft Pick Signing Topic

What is the cut off for draft pick signing?  I have quite a bit of money left in my prospect budget and we have about 40 games left.  If nothing better pops up in the IF's, I might spring for the 6mill my 3rd round pick was asking for.  I just wasn't sure how long we can sign the draft picks.

I believe it's the last day of the season, but if he's asking for $6MM as a 3rd round pick, he's going to take some time to decide.  So if you really want him, I'd put it in at least a week before the end of the season.

Last season I had a pick sign on the very last day of the MLB regular season.  I thought he was worth a gamble.  He was a marginal player and I had some money left.  But he signed on the last day of the season.  I was able to assign him.  he basically lost a year.

Is this definitely true?
I would think the system would make a decision before season's end.

Does anyone have an actual case where a guy was still contemplating and ran out of time?
