Is there a reason that D2 academic non-qualifiers are listed as an independent group (I.e., 5th year srs) in the player rankings? It seems more appropriate that a player that had a rs @ some point should be independently categorized bc they get the extra season of improvement...do non-qualifiers get an extra off season improvement boost between the ineligible year and their "fr" season?

I'm not sure of the reason but I'm glad they are separated.  In fact, I wish they were separated each year with an asterick F*, SO*, JR*. .  In the past I've planned to recruit a player, only to realize that my senior has another season left.
