Extracting data to Excel Topic

I think it would be pretty nice to have an option to extract data to Excel.

I'm looking at writing a formula to help me with my drafts and if I could extract current/projected and hitting/defense/pitching data to excel and put them in sheets, it would save me a lot of time copying/pasting/formatting.

Is this something that can be done?

Highlight all, copy, paste spcial into excel x3, takes about 30secs. I believe they've said in the past that they're against further excel integration/downloaded able data.

Crump - Thanks for the heads up.

I can obviously do all the copying and pasting, but it's tedious to do hitting ratings... then do fielding ratings.... then combine them... and then do pitching ratings... and then pitchers hitting ratings....  I was hoping to see some type of simplification of that process but if WIS has already ruled on this, then I guess I'm on my own!

I have a template set up, i have hitting ratings first, then picthing then fielding. I take all 500 players at once for each category (projected only, i dont care about current for drafting), and all columns, so you have name, and draft position in the thing3 times, but you then can paste them all into one sheet, side by side, so you dont need to do any combining.

You can then either have a macro that removes all the clutter or read in the spreadsheet into another analytical tool and use that to do the grunt work, I use SAS and then output an archive spreadsheet for the season/world of all the players i saw, and how i ranked them, and also the players i didnt rank. Rank as the output suggests and then fine tune for who i want to take with my #1.

Great info and over the next 6 months I'll be working my algorithm to do all this.  I just screwed my knee up playing flag football, so I'll have some free time sitting on the couch over the next month or so.  Hopefully will get something up and running soon.

Thanks for all of the help.  I greatly appreciate it.

If anyone has a spare algorithm, I'll gladly take it.  Or even a heads up on how to you make the formulas.

In excel it's really just a case of applying weighting values to the ratings, and effectively defining your own overall rating, so that when you resort they fall into the order you would like. As with anything you'll still need to fine tune after.

you can also create macros to remove or add items or other steps. I use multiple macros when grabbing data (removal of the multiple names and the such) off of pages from HBD makes it go quicker.
