What do you call player who were ineligible last season? 2nd yr freshmen? Anyway, I just had one quit my Marquette team because he complained about not getting enough minutes (he wanted 5 mpg) and said I didn't deliver. He averaged 4.6 mpg.  Is it normal for a kid to leave over such a small margin? Sucks if so; I have a 6-0-6-0 class structure I was trying out, and now will have 7 openings, plus, he would have been my starting PG for the next 3 yrs.

I imagine the reason he left over such a small margin would be due to the fact that 5 mpg was significantly less than what he originally was looking for in the first place. I personally get the vibe that your 2nd year freshman, or your LISTED sophmore...tend to look for minutes that they would see as their listed YEAR. So possibly he was expecting more of 9-12 mpg since he was listed a soph.

I guess - he sent a mail asking for 1 or 2 more minutes, and I got him up to 4.6 - thought that would cut it...

When you get them to their desired level, you get another mail saying "Thank You"/"I love you"/"You da man"... etc.

What were his average minutes when you got the sitemail askig for 1-2 more minutes?   What were his average minutes for the remaining games?   If his remaining games average was at least 1 minute more than he was getting before he whined,  you have a legitimate beef because you met his demands.

I deleted my emails, so I can't remember when he sent emails or what they said. CS checked it, say his minutes went down over the 4 days between messages. His minutes went up after that, but not enough for him not to leave...

When I have those whiny players, I look at their demands. If they want 6 minutes/game and there are 10 games left, I make sure they play 60 minutes for the remainder of the season. I've never had a player quit or transfer.

I cut it too fine - I had 6 seniors on the team - 4 guards - and he was just too far down the pecking order. He would have started the next 3 seasons at PG for me, but I guess i should have done a better job making sure he was happy. My loyalty and rep are both A+, maybe I'll see what else I'm qualified for before deciding how to proceed with my new PG problem :)

i have a guy i am anxious/curious to see what happens with.  he complained after non-con that he was playing 8 mins a game and wanted 12 or 13.  the next 4 games he averaged 9 mins...i didn't bump him obviously...and he complained again.  from that point i upped his minutes quite a bit and going back to his ORIGINAL complaint he has averaged 13.7 minutes per game since non-con.  However, I never got the email with him singing my praises so I dont know what to expect when the season ends

it certainly seems that they've switched this (in the correction of the promises/never playing in a game thing, i guess) so that there's no leeway at all.

I had a guy quit over similarly small minute issues last season for the first time in ~140 seasons of coaching. I didn't quite get to his desired level, but his WE only dropped a little (say 5 points), so I thought he'd stick around. He certainly would have 90% of the time before. Will need to monitor this stuff closely going forward, or there will be tons and tons of transfers. I'd guess this is another in a long list of overcorrections. There's no way to get every Soph 10 minutes and every Jr and Sr 15+ every season.

And yet, oddly enough, i forced a RS on a guy last season, his WE fell to 1, and he stuck around. Hmmm.

I for one don't mind this.  Guys transfer all the time for lack of PT, and there are ways to get every senior 15 mpg and every soph 10mpg.  You might not want to do it, but it can be done by sitting some of  your guys getting 25 mpg a bit and checking though boxes for play bench players once the game gets out of reach.
