Came across this player in recruiting and didn't want to let him get away considering his potential in Spd, Def & Peri. My initial thoughts are to bring him along slowly as second-string SF, behind Chester Furtado. But after looking at the mediocre career that Furtado has had I'm thinking about just starting Boren and see what he can do as a frosh. I've never started a frosh and I know there will be some bumps [inconsistency, matchup problems] but I think he'll be solid this season and pretty good down the road.

Any thoughts/constructive suggestions?

I'd try real hard to redshirt him.  If not, I think I would not play him at SF, 10 reb & 1 LP, and somewhat low ath and shot block.  He will be a nice deep backup at guard for a season or two, and a nice two year starter.  But, I would try redshirting him first, you'll have a monster player by his junior season that way.

If you are unable to redshirt him, and he has a brighter upside than one of your "mediocre" starters, then I wouldn't hesitate to start him. Starting a freshman does have some downsides, but if you're willing to risk some minor stumbles early on, you will benefit in the long run

Thx oldresorter and usc4life. I have considered the RS option and if I can't make that work I'll just start him and work through the minor stumbles along the way.

also, if you have to start him, you don't have to do it every game, or at the same position all the time, to reap the vast majority of the benefits. Lots of PT and a bunch of starts will help his WE and his growth as a player for sure.

This relates directly to what I was going to suggest ... you have a lot of sims on your schedule, so I would lean towards starting him vs. sims and not starting him vs. humans.

(As an aside, given all of the sims in your conference, my other suggestion would be to schedule harder. Just looking at your W-L vs. RPI the last few seasons, the easy schedule is hurting your efforts to make the NT.)

And here's how he's progressed through his frosh season:

FG-46%
FT-60%
3FG-42%

4.7pts 1.3rebs 1.1asts

Tried to redshirt him but it wouldn't take, so I ended up starting him in 23 of our 28 games so far.  I think he had a solid season for a freshman-looking forward to watching his development:
