Here's my situation. Player is a FA after this year. Wants 4 years, total of roughly 23 million.
I have excess cap room this year that will go unused, about 9 million.
If I resign the pitcher, giving him a 9 million bonus, and spreading the remaining 14 million over 4 years (3.5 per), will the 9 million bonus be used against this current seasons cap, or will the 9 million go against the next seasons cap, and make the players total cap impact 3.5 plus 9 for total of 12.5?
