Fix the amount of time given to counter a FA offer Topic

There is way too little time given to the team who has the lower contract offer to a FA, if there are 2 teams bidding on a FA it should go to the end of the FA period before awarding the player to the highest bidder.

Sometimes the FA signs after 1/2 a cycle without ever giving the lowest bidder the opportunity to counter offer

Others have argued the opposite because extending the decision time takes other players off the table for the loser.   IOW, it becomes all or nothing for that guy because everyone else is snatching up your option Bs..

My suggestion: if somebody has been the high bidder on an FA or IFA (or even coach, for that matter) for "x" number of half cycles (lets say 6, or ~24 hours), then he wins.

So if two owners are leap-frogging on a particular player, then it goes to the very end.

There is no "good" solution.   The guy who loses will always say "I'd have paid more" and "Now there's no one left to pick up".

I'm taking a wild stab here, but this was probably posted within 15 minutes of nauds losing out on an FA>

How about limiting the amount of offers teams can make?  Make it to where a team can only offer initially and then respond once more to a counter-offer... ?

In real life, you never see a guy get offered 10 different contracts.  Make it to where each franchise can only offer each player twice.

I've suggested several times that we only be allowed to offer once, maybe twice, to IFA.    Do the same thing with FA.

I didn't lose out on a FA, I lead 6 cycles on the best FA, only to have someone leapfrog me. Luckily I had the opportunity to counter offer.

If he leapfrogged me one cycle later, I wouldve never had the chance to counter

maybe, or maybe after you leapfrogged him, the guy pulled his offer to the IFA so he signed w/ the only guy offering him big money at that point.

THE CARDINALS DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE TO COUNTER PUJOLS!!1!!!

According to nauds OP, Pujols should have waited until mid-February to sign.
