progressing prospects fielding question Topic

I drafted this guy Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Marc Towers and his position says SS. I know that's a long shot, but I think I'd rather him in the IF rather than OF. Sim recommends playing him in RF-- will he progress the same defensively no matter where he's playing in the minors (IF or OF? )

I remember reading a thread similar to this awhile ago, it said playing prospects at SS/3B will increase their defensive attributes higher than playing them at other positions

WifS says it matters.   I doubt it.  Because that's encouraging me to put my slugging 1B in LoA at SS to maximize his fielding progression.   Why would they build a game that encourages dumbassery like that?

My understanding is the Recs button is based upon current ratings.  So do not change a prospect's position because he is currently recommended to play RF.  Whether the position he is playing effects his development is subject to some debate.

You can hit "projected recs".

my gut feeling is that it matters in the sense that SS will get more chances than a RF.  And total number chances are all that matter in development much like AB's matter for hitting development.  Although, I kind of doubt that the system is refined to the point that throwing the ball more (ie a SS compared to 1B) will increase the arm ratings more.  I'm guessing guys that touch the ball more will develop all their fielding ratings at a certain rate.   I could be wrong about that though.

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Louie Estrada

Played DH all last year.  Gained 4 points in PC, 5 in AA, and 2 in GLV.  Pretty much what I would expect if he were at C.

I have no idea then.  Thanks for destroying that theory...

It's hard to tell simply because you don't know how accurate projections are but I ran the numbers on about a half dozen of my minor league SS in MG.   Simply because I draft a lot of good glove/no stick SS some of them don't get to play SS in the minor on a full-time basis.   There just wasn't anything that made me go "Holy hell!!!!  Playing him at 2B/3B/CF really killed his development!!!!"
