1 game to win - 85% #1 starter or 100% #4/5 starte Topic

game 7 and there is no tomorrow.  Do you throw your #1 starter on 3 days rest at 85% or your 100% fully rested 4/5 starter?

If you throw your #1 Cy Young candidate at 85% do just drop his pitches by 20 or 25 and move him from a 2 or 3 pull to a 4 or a 5?

Not 100% knowing how fatigue works wouldn't throwing a guy at 85% be like putting him out there after he had already pitched a couple of innings?

I say go with the #1 guy. Like you said, there is no tomorrow if you lose, so go for it

No, fatigue doesn't work like that. A player remains at his pregame fatigue level until he reaches his in-game pitch benchmark. I multiply stamina by 1.3. Its just a guess but seems to work well. Also, if you feel your #1 is the better choice, then there is no reason to raise his pull setting, unless you have a bullpen that is better than this #1 guy.

My only rationale behind raising his pull rating was because he may not be as effective since he is not 100%. So if you throw a guy out there at say 85 is the downside that he can't go as long but he will have the same effectiveness?

Pitchers do lose effectiveness as the game wears on, I believe WIS has explicitly stated such.  This is why relievers who get left out there for several innings (depending on their STA) get shelled a lot.  Just think about it, if you threw your SP out there for a 245-pitch outing, he's probably not going to be striking out the side in the 9th is he?

My choice is to go with the #1 guy and turn his TPC/MPC down.  I'd probably turn the Pull Rating up to 3, maybe 4 at the most.

Looks like he got lit up:

Player % IP H R ER BB SO HR PC ERA
Vince Shea, L (2-2) 88 3.1 6 5 5 1 5 2 62 4.63

yep - was not pretty.  Not sure my #4/5 would have done any better though...

Wouldn't you drop the pull rating down to prevent a blowout, and keep the game winnable?
