1974 Gaylord Perry Topic

Just used him for the 1st time in an OL, and I have to say I'm pretty pleased with the results for $10M:

51 GS, 26-12, 2.87, 1.22 WHIP in 361 IP.

His performance history is not great (his previous "best" season was 13-21, albeit with a good ERA and WHIP), so make what you will of this one very good season, but I'd definitely use him again in a negative HR park.

I am looking at a possible open league with a 1975 Gaylord Perry along with 184ip and a 1946 Joe Beggs 200ip..... I probably should just combine those two guys(their salary equals a little more than 10 mil) and get your 1974 Perry and call it a day!  HR/9 still a little high though I was looking into a balanced park.

I cannot go with the 74 Perry, not enough innings and not enough cash left after I let go of the other two guys. So I will take the 74 Perry and Beggs and add in a 1915 Pete Alexander and a 1915 Fred Anderson to round out a 4 man staff. Do you like?

I should have worked in your 74 Perry Contra. Just an update, 75 Perry has over a 4.00 era and Beggs is over 6.00, almost at the all-star break.  I am giving Beggs 2 more starts before I consider waiving him, C'mon Beggsy, its your time to shine!

That 74 Perry is around 95 Maddux $ with 87 more innings pitched. His bb/9 may be his one weakness but 2.80 is not too bad. That is good, I am glad he is doing good for you.

There are lots of 300+ inning pitchers in the sim for 95 Maddux's cost.  But if you have aspirations about the postseason, as opposed to just having a great regular season, be mindful that in the postseason, it's all about the pitching.  And in the postseason (especially in the LCS or WS), you'll be facing starting pitchers who are a lot better than Gaylord Perry, regardless of the park.

Beggs just went 5 innings pitched 0 earned runs in his first make or break start. If he can do it again tomorrow then I may keep him. He is well rested and if I waive him I want to get the most out of him first.
