DIII recruiting help Topic

I just took over Albertus Magnus in DIII Phelan and had 2 schlorships, so $6K to spend. I haven't played HD in a while, and hope I didn't blow my wad already. Signings begin Tomorrow night and recruiting ends Tuesday, and I'm already down to $1128 left. No recruit that i've targeted yet is even considering me, some are undecided and others are considering other schools.

What's the best way for me to go about allocating my remaining $1100 and still land two decent scholorsihp players?

Thanks in advance

Take a walkon and dump the rest into one player. It'll be almost impossible to land 2 decent guys. You'll just have to take your lumps and learn from it.

How did you spend $4500 and get noone considering you?  What were you spending it on, and at what level...DII, DIII?

D3... Its in the title

I guess I blew it in FSS.. I scouted NY, NJ, MA and CT

Ooh yeah don't do that at D3. I just took over Keuka and I almost did the same thing, but with the lack of money you should either just scout NY or scout three states near it. I chose NY

You have 4 states scouted that, I presume, are very close to your campus. If so, my advice is to just...wait.

Let signings start and see who is left over and not considering anyone once kids have started to sign their life on the dotted line. Then go and find ONE player with good potentials/starting values in the core categories for his position. Preferably, this will be a player within 200 miles of you. I realize you need to fill 2 scholarships, but I recommend you stagger your approach. The situation you want to avoid at all costs is taking two walk-ons. One is okay. Wait for the initial dust of signings to settle and then see what's left over. Stay close to home to keep costs down...you might not get a home run recruit, but you can find plenty of very solid recruits after signings start, especially in high-expense states to scout like NY. Once you have the first guy signed, then you can repeat the process with whatever cash you have left to try and get a second. If you offer a kid a scholarship and he considers you, but doesn't sign, think about promising him 10 minutes...that's an easy promise to meet for most coaches and at 10 bucks is a nice cheap persuasive offer to a kid that needs a nudge.

thanks for the advice.. i will wait until the last day of signings to do anything. With $1100 to spend, theres no chance I can land two decent recruits? Do I have to throw big $ at a recruit to land him, or could some phone calls/letters/1 home visit do it for these guys?

Don't use phone calls and letters. Waste of money. The only exception is early during recruiting to identify potential pull downs and drop downs.

You can sign a recruit with promise start + PT + scholarship. Cost = 120.

But this doesn't go for every recruit. Besides, if he can't fulfill those promises, he will have another problem.
