Position switch? Topic

Came back to hoops dynasty finally. Almost done with recruiting with my DIII team and i managed 2 pulldowns. The more I look at my SF, the more he intrigues me. Here are his minimum stats with all potentials accounted for:

height- 6' 7"

ATH-    78
SPD-    42
REB-    69
DEF-    73+
BLK-    40
LP-       42+
PER-    31
BH-       32
P-          50+
ST-        75
DU-       87

The pluses are the high-high potentials. Now for my question. Seeing this, I am torn between this player being a SF or PF.  It's been a while for me so i was wondering where you guys would stick him after a year or two. Right now he will be back up in both positions. I guess what is tripping me up is his numbers are good for a SF but his ATH+REB+DEF combo will make a sick nasty rebounder at PF and i love me some rebounding for a DIII game. His speed may also be an (minor) issue with SF and if low post doesn't take off it will be the issue for being a PF.

Help me out if I'm a bit off anywhere in this analysis since I'm a bit rusty.  Tell me what position you would be thinking about putting him ideally

I think he will eat 90% of his opposing SF's for breakfast, especially on the boards. If I was in you're position, I would ask myself, "do I have another player who can rebound at the same (or higher) level to play PF and allow this guy to slide down to SF?"

IMHO he can play either position, but I personally love players like him to play as a SF. Also, as long as his ATH is 70+, he will be a proficient scorer if his LP is around 50.

As a side note, height doesn't matter nowadays

no disagreement with the above thoughts - although I have not been in DII in a while

one further idea - might not be bad to have him 2nd in your depth chart at both SF and PF not just this year but also in the future - would make it harder for folks who play man to man to try to match up a good defender on him

I was thinking pretty much the same that it all depends on the next best player either SF or PF. I will probably bounce him around both positions depending on opposing teams player in each so that he is optimized. I'm really amazed I got the guy now that i realize he is a 650 overall with just the minimums.  I may have a 700+ DIII player on my hands in the first year of recruiting lol

I would prefer to play a guy like that at SF, ironically for the opposite reason you mentioned in the opening post - 69 rebounding is elite for an SF, but it's lower than I prefer to play at PF.  He could certainly play PF, though, and do a very good job of it.  I would say since you appear to play man-to-man (unless you plan on switching) that the best thing to do will likely be to move him around and put him on the opposing teams' better scorers since he will more than likely be the best defender on your team.

I would pick what areas he has potential in to develop first...(so he will be usefull quicker),  or try to get a RS on him. Otherwise with a 31 WE he will not see anything close to 700 unless you plan on starting him from day one. He has some very nice potential... but do not under-estimate what a 31WE will do in todays game.
