Starters In Relief (Advanced Settings) Topic

Yes.  If Toney is set for 6th inning, he's not coming in before that unless there are no other options.  In this case, Sparky had another option: your mop up.

This is the most critical thing to understand about how Sparky uses the bullpen - he is going to obey every instruction you give him unless he has no other option.  He will not override those instructions, even if doing so would improve your chances of winning.

Yea its amazing in this game how every little detail counts.

Chisox, to answer your question, if I do want a starter to pitch in relief the way I have been doing this is to pull him from the rotation and set him the way I want in the bullpen.  I havn't experimented much at all with the advanced setting relief check box so was really curious what some of the more experienced players had to say about it. I'm glad I asked. Really, thanks all for an informative forum.

This is the best thread I've read yet. Still trying to figure out the benefits of LONG A and B. Also, I wish I could get a better handle on exactly how trentonjoe is setting up his five starters three relievers. Pitching setup is an area of the game I must learn but seems vague and mysterious. Is there some holy grail thread that goes into all of this stuff?

While I definitely wouldn't call it the holy grail, the thread "how Sparky uses his bullpen" may be helpful.

Thank You contrarian. I can see I'll be hungrily stuffing my brain with the info you have there!

I've pulled a starter and put him in Long A/B a few times early in the season when my BP gets worn quickly. I suppose I am one of those math guys who rarely uses a starter in relief, but sometimes I get a ton of extra inning games early on and my BP gets burned up quicky. By mid to late season, the BP has its stamina and I almost never have to use a starter.

Playoffs is a different story, that is where I will pull my #4 and put him relief.
