leftover money... Topic

I think I know what to do, but....

If I have roughly 60k left and one scholarship open, does it make sense to sign an undecided cheap so I carryover my 25%, and then cut the guy so I get both the money and the chance to sign someone next season?

I can't remember if the loyalty hit is enough to make this an undesirable move.

I'd rather use that 60k to sign a stud-muffin this season.

that only makes sense if you find a transfer with 1 year of eligibility left to get on the cheap.  otherwise you won't get the money for the open scholarship if you cut the player after the season.

Depends on your current team and needs. If signing a new kid now would help you make the NT this season and next, recruit him. If not, sign a 1 yr loaner.

Another factor would be prestige. Is there a chance your prestige grade coud be worse next yr? If so, signing him this season might be easier then a comparable player next.

It might be an easier decison if 100% carryover was at stake here also but I assume it is it. Granted, $15k carryover (25%) is pretty darn good for d1.

Note: you might want to also take a look at nearby powerhouse schools. Take a guess if they need that position this yr or next. Doesn't hurt to look even if it doesn't influence yor decision.
