Promoting prospects Topic

I just got knocked out of the playoffs with my St Louis team, and I have a bunch of prospects I plan on promoting for next season(not to ML). is there any difference in promoting them now (while the ML playoffs are going on) or waiting until the WS ends and the world fills and rolls over?

Thanks

Not promoting before rollover incurs a slight chance that the player will retire.  Depends on his age, experience, and level.

I always promote after my teams have completed any minor league playoffs they are involved in have completed.  Also, if I have a minor league team in the playoffs, and I have ML prospects who I plan to promote to that level, I'll promote during the playoffs so that the prospect gets more playing time.

My first season just ended and I had failed to promote minor leaguers prior to rollover.  Not only did many retire, but some I was planning to promote to the majors this season opted for free agency.  Would promoting them before the rollover helped to prevent the free agent filings?

Nope.  A player becomes a free agent when his contract ends.  That is it.

But minor league contracts end every year right?  So is there just a mass exodus every season?

Minor leaguers with 6+ years of pro ball will become free agents unless they are on to 40 man roster.

Five or less years of pro ball, they stay in your system.

If you wanted to keep them, you should have put them on the 40-man roster.

Before the season ends, look at the Free Agent list for the following season.  ML & MinL.  If there are any MinL players there you want to keep, put them on your 40 man roster.  If there are any ML players you want to keep, you have to try to sign them before rollover.

You don't have to try to sign your departing ML FA's before rollover.  There are some considerations (pro and con) for doing so:

1)  Their demands may increase or decrease between this season and next season.  Sometimes it's cheaper to re-sign them now, sometimes it's cheaper to wait until rollover.  For younger guys, I'll re-sign before rollover.  For older guys, I'll wait until after rollover.

2)  I typically avoid signing guys to an extension until the season (regular or playoffs) ends, in case there's an injury.  Re-signing a guy looks a lot less attractive if they suffer a major long term mega-ratings-hit injury that will last well into next season.

3)  Sometimes if you wait until rollover, they'll refuse to re-sign with you and will want to go onto the open market.  You'll get a response along the lines of "Sorry, but you had your chance to re-sign me last season".

I have about 20 minor league guys that will be FA after this season rolls.. my 40 man roster is full. There's a bunch of Minor Leaguers that won't ever be Big leaguers, but I'd like to keep them just to keep my minors competitve. I have no more room on my 40 for these guys... will I still be able to resign most of them?

My world is currently in the World Series, and I can't resign these minor league free agents now, correct? I need to wait until the world rolls over for free agency to begin?

You should be able to resign the ones who are willing to sign a minor league FA contract.

You will have to wait until after rollover to resign them.

How do you play 4 seasons of HBD and not know how this works yet?
