we know that a doubleteam is not available when playing the full court press...the logic is that each player is double teamed by virtue of it being a press. but is that true? when running a man or a zone, the pbp clearly indicates when a player is double teamed and - i believe - the dt affects shooting % while increasing fouls. we never see that in the fcp pbp. the fcp def increases fouls and is intended to increase to's, but does it actually affect shooting percentages? i think not. from a very limited sample of fg% against stats, here's what i came up with: (NOTES: bc a hcp hybrid def doesn't play the press to defend shots, i didn't include the hcp numbers in the "fcp" side; also, didn't do an avg of iq's or def / ath / spd ratings to cover variables...nor did i look at opponents' ratings, iq's, etc.; i also didn't bother checking how many teams in each division in each world run specific defenses to determine whether the stats are proportionate. i know all those factors would affect the validity of the breakdown, but this is really an 'at a glance' breakdown)
naismith (breakdown in top 10 fg% against):
d3 - 9 zone or m2m; 1 fcp
d2 - all 10 zone or m2m
d1 - all 10 zone or m2m
knight (same breakdown) -
d3 - 10 zone or m2m
d2 - 9 zone or m2m; 1 fcp
d1 - 4 zone or m2m; 6 fcp
Aside for the anomaly @ d1 knight, its pretty clear that zone and m2m offer a distinct advantage at defending fg's. i don't know that enabling (or enforcing) a dt will resolve that, but there should be some tool in the engine that either accounts for def ratings; ath / spd, iq, etc for the fcp that would do more than affect to's and affect the opponents' abilities to shoot or allow the option to dt so that a sharp shooter can, in fact, be dt'ed when shooting.
thoughts? am i way off base?
