If a player transfers from your program because he was not getting enough playing time, what kind of a penalty hit is there?  A drop in loyalty?  (Player is a sophomore)  How significant is the penalty?

Thanks

No hit.

it would be a reputation hit not loyalty, and I believe there is a small penalty. It may not show for just one player...

And does reputation really have any significance in your recruiting.  Would I notice any difference in ability to recruit certain players?  Also, would I get his open scholarship right away?

There's definitely a hit if he leaves because of broken promises, but since he's a sophomore it doesn't sound like that's the case.

You'll get the scholarship money right away if he transfers.

the hit to recruiting would be negligible. The only real issue could be jobs if it does drop any noticeable amount.

my personal opinion, not something ive looked into much, is that reputation and loyalty are negligible in recruiting. i think CS has said that rep matters and loyalty does not. it would be hard for us to notice when a full grade drop is less than 10% hit though, and i have had those situations at new programs after many cuts, or with grades - and i couldn't notice any difference. i didn't do experiments to verify that... it wouldnt take much to know for sure... but the general consensus seems to be, rep hit is negligible in recruiting.

So it sounds like it would be advantageous for me to play the guy I want to play and give him the experience rather than forcing minutes on the sophomore so he won't transfer.

If you don't care if the sophomore leaves, the other repercussions are minimal.
