Too many runners thrown out at home! Topic

Well I just took a look at a random day in the MLB last season (I picked June 4th as it was a weekend and had a good slate of games) and looked at all the PbP for all 15 games and found:

Tampa Bay at Seattle, bottom of the 4th inning:

A Kennedy flied out to right, J Smoak thrown out at home.

LA Dodgers at Cincinnati, bottom of the 7th inning:

P Janish singled to right, J Bruce thrown out at home, R Hernandez to third, P Janish to second advancing on throw.

Also looking at the Advanced Fielding stats at Baseball-Reference, it looks like approx 50% of OF Assists are plays at the plate and about 30% are at 2nd on average.  Based on the data, I would expect somewhere around 1 out at home plate every 10 team games or so on average.

Yeah... not as many outfield assists at 2B because people *know* it's a short throw and don't try for it unless they're far more certain than they would be for a throw to the plate.

Yes.  When someone gets thrown out at 2nd, there is a good chance that they were drawing a throw to allow a runner to score.

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
If 75% is acceptable for stealing second, the acceptable rate for stealing home (going for it on a hit) ought to be much lower.

Do fielders typically commit around the same number of errors they made in real life?  In the same light, do fielders typically make about the same number of assists they do in real life?
