Apollo started an interesting thread about late inning defensive replacements. The idea was for a player say in LF to move to 2B and another to go to LF if that move was to maximize defense. I like the idea. In fact, I'd like to go a step further with it. A lot of the old time pitchers also played the field, most notably the OF. I'd love for someone like a Babe Ruth, let's say, to come in as a defensive replacement in the OF late in games if his defense is higher rated than my current OFer. For some reason though, pitchers are not used that much in that capacity.
I have seen pitchers come into the game as pinch hitters before, but I think that is because all other hitters on the bench have been expended. I'd like to have the option of setting up my pinch hitting hierarchy to include pitchers. Again, someone like Babe Ruth or George McQuillan would be a nice bat to have come into the game for a key hit.
