Is it possible to pull down d2 guys when they say you are a backup still?

Yes, if they say your are a backup you can pull them down. I send 1 phone call, 10 scouting visits, and the schollie offer. That works 95% of the time. If he doesn't consider you then keep offering 4-5 SVs at a time until he accepts.

Thats pretty much the definition of a pull down player. Its someone that says you are a backup but you pull them down to your level and sign them.

Mkiet,

Hopefully you're in D1, cuz if you're in D111 and even if the guy is only 50 to 100 miles away, with 10 scouting visits, you just spent your whole recruiting budget on 1 player with the hope he signs with you and if not, you'll have nothing left to go after anyone else.

this isn't really true. 10 scouting trips at 100 miles plus a scholarship is like 2k. you get 3k per player plus bonus monies. you can at least try a pulldown for every 2 openings, and can push it more if you aren't concerned about battling for anyone.

I have even done 20 scouting visits at d3 to pull down guys.  It's risky, but worth the payoff if you don't think they guy will drop.  I have seen with higher prestige that more of these guys drop.  So if you are patient they may come your way.  It's risky either way - will someone else get  him while you wait for a drop down?  Or will you spend too much on SV to pull him down - and someone else decides they want him (and you have a battle on your hands).  My strategy is often to 'secure' a few other guys that I don't need to pull down and then pull down as budget permits.

This is when a good conference really helps - lots of 'bonus' money from NT.

Well this strategy worked for me,  I did 10 evaluations one cycle with a scholly offer, two more the next and he was considering me. I one of the best recruits in terms of potential and ratings I have ever gotten. Hope he signs tomorrow and no one goes after him.
